We’ve all heard the horror stories before. A newly wed
couple found a great romantic getaway package and went on their
travel agent’s ‘word.’ They get their and their
sadly disappointed. Nothing is as it appears to be. The honeymoon
seems doomed. The crystal clear water is murky. The beautiful
view from your suite is obstructed by a building, wall, or worse--there’s
no view at all. Have we horrified you enough yet? Good. Now you’re
ready to get proactive and choose your honeymoon accommodations
wisely. Ensure the best honeymoon location and accommodations
for you and your new spouse:
1. Never select a honeymoon destination blindly. While spinning
a globe and pointing may sound romantic, you have no idea what
you’re getting into. Research local customs, laws, accommodations,
attractions, and weather prior to making honeymoon arrangements
anywhere. You’ll be much happier in the long run.
2. Only give your hotel telephone number to immediate family.
It’s your honeymoon! The last thing you want is to receive
a telephone call in the middle of the night from a co-worker to
ask job-related questions. Turn your cell phone off too, for that
matter.
3. If you’re travelling internationally for your honeymoon,
make sure you bring photo identification, such as a drivers license,
a passport, a birth certificate, and any medical cards you may
need in case you become ill. You and your spouses named should
match up on each document. With that said, she may wish to keep
her maiden name on all documents until you return home.
4. Make a lot of phone calls! If you’re travel agent tells
you one thing about your honeymoon location or honeymoon accommodations,
research the information prior to committing. Surf the web and
make plenty of phone calls to confirm everything!
5. If you’re travelling internationally for your honeymoon,
make sure that all of your shots are up to date. Many beautiful
places are very poor. Certain diseases are known to run rampant
through different parts of the world. Don’t risk it! You
may even be required to have these shots by law.
6. Avoid local vendors that promise you the world. You may feel
thrifty on your honeymoon. After all, you’re only going
to do it once, right? But do with style! See attractions that
you both want to see. Don’t buy into anyone’s gimmick.
A lot of big domestic cities and foreign countries are known to
have tour guides and vendors that take advantage of tourists.
If you follow these guidelines, you’re on the right track
to avoiding the honeymoon from hell. Remember, if anything seems
too good to be true, it most likely is. Research is key to prevention
of an undesirable honeymoon location, bad hotel, or awful weather.
